Urban design

In keeping with the recommendations of the masterplan to break up the architecture and avoid intrusive, uninterrupted elevations, the design of Speirs Locks Student Campus marries together elements of varying height, mass and scale.

The higher building elements are designed to be more sculptural and iconic, establishing a recognisable identity on the skyline and creating corridors of interest through which the developmentā€™s citywide views can be enjoyed.

The lower building designs are more regular and structured in character, with studios, workshops and open spaces ensuring life and movement throughout.

Combined, they create a student residential development that is connected at every level, encourages movement from the lower Garscube Road along the Forth and Clyde Canal towpath, and re-connects Speirs Wharf back to the city centre once more.
